Contract Title:

Contract RA/106 - Construction and Maintenance of Roads, Bridges, Drainage, Sewer and other services for Completion
of First Ring Road, Jahra Gate Roundabout - Package 1

Date of enterprise: 5th February 2006

Date of Possession of site: 10th June 2006

Contract Period: 1400 days to Substantial Completion Plus 730 days Maintenance Period.



MAJOR COMPONENTS OF WORKS:

The Works consist of approximately 1,535 meters of road on bridges, 440 meters of road on ramps and 2,330 meters of road in troughs together with works to associated local roads and junctions.

The bulk of the work is to construct the trough section which will require extensive excavation, dewatering, temporary excavation support, tension piles and concrete works.

There are 3 main elevated bridges and several bridges on troughs, several pedestrian bridges and utility crossings.
The Works include diversions and stopping of existing services and utilities, road and footpath surfacing, road lighting, road signs, road markings, noise barriers, traffic signaling, surface water drainage and associated works.
The relocation / installation of telephone (PTT) cables, traffic surveillance equipment, and control cables and equipment are not part of this Contract, i.e. to be performed by others. All 11 KV distribution systems as shown and specified in the contract documents are part of this Contract.

The removal and or relocation of high voltage (over 11KV) electrical cables will be part of this contract and will be supervised by the Ministry of Energy.

The Majority of Works fall under the category of General Civil Engineering (Excavation, Piling, Concrete and Utilities) with limited work requiring highly specialized contractors as follows:
 
1- Earth Works:
   a. Excavation
   b. Dewatering
   c. Excavation stabilization
2- Piling
3- Concrete Works
   a. Trough Base Slab
   b. Trough Walls
   c. Columns and Footings
   d. Retaining Walls
   e. Culverts
4- Pre-stressed Concrete Works (Bridge Superstructure)
5- Drainage Works and Pumping Stations
6- Relocation of Existing Sanitary lines including Micro-tunneling
7- Relocation of Ministry of Communication lines
8- Relocation of Electrical Cables Low Tension
9- Relocation of Electrical Cables
10- Relocation of Fresh and Brackish water lines
11- Asphalt Works
12- Street lighting & Traffic Control
13- Traffic Control and Maintenance
